Ampelos Cellars:
The Ampelos estate vineyard sits on the eastern edge of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation, precisely where the Santa Ynez Valley begins to expose itself to the cool breeze blowing off the Pacific Ocean from the west. Peter and Rebecca Work planted their 25 acre vineyard starting in 2001, with the majority of vines devoted to Pinot Noir - a grape proven to thrive in the fog-covered Sta. Rita Hills, and one that is largely responsible for the reputation of the region itself. Ampelos has quickly become renowned for its stunning Pinot, but the winery also produces excellent representations of cool-climate Syrah, Grenache, and Viognier. The Ampelos vineyard is certified both organic and biodynamic, and all winemaking practices are sustainably enforced. Even the pressing of the grapes is done by hand.
