TrueTerroir is an internet based company dedicated to the promotion of sustainable wine and winemaking within the state of California. Our goal is to showcase only the most passionate and committed producers, and in doing so demonstrate that sustainable wine production not only benefits the environment and human health, but also wine quality itself.

Our Standards:

In order for a winery/producer to be represented by TrueTerroir, it must first and foremost craft the majority of its wines from either organically or biodynamically grown grapes (to learn more about organic and biodynamic farming practices, please click on their respective links under the Education menu). Farming practices are of particular importance to our team simply because of the key role they play in the overall winemaking process, as well as their direct impact on the environment and human health.
That said, it is our intention to represent only those wineries/producers who are truly committed to reducing their environmental impact in all areas of wine production. Consequently, farming practices alone will not satisfy our requirements for representation. Wineries/Producers seeking TrueTerroir’s services must go beyond the vineyard and make a genuine effort to improve the health of the planet as a whole.

This includes, but is not limited to, any practices aimed at the following: reducing CO2 emissions, habitat/wildlife conservation, water conservation, improving and/or protecting human health, erosion control, preventing eutrophication and desertification, and reducing overall consumption and waste. We firmly believe that it is only after a winery/producer has met all of the requirements set forth above that it can be considered truly "sustainable", and thereby eligible for representation as such.
