Cooper-Garrod Vineyard:
Cooper-Garrod is a small family-owned winery perched on the inland side of the Santa Cruz Mountains just above the town of Saratoga. Originally an apricot and prune orchard, the 120 acre property has been continuously farmed by the Garrod family since 1893. Their vineyard currently consists of 28 hillside acres planted to 7 different grape varieties, all of which are unirrigated and organically farmed. There is also an equestrian center on the property, which offers horseback riding tours through the estate and the surrounding hillsides. The stables also provide the winery with manure, which is turned into compost and used to fertilize the vines. Winemaker Bill Cooper strives for moderate alcohol levels and bright acidity. His wines are a genuine expression of the Santa Cruz Mountain terroir.
